The lakeside trail here is great for walking, biking, or skiing. Sections have been washed out in recent years, but generally are passable with some scrambling or walking your bike. During summer, the lakeside trail, originally an old road, is usually open to ATVs Sunday-Wednesday and gets dusty from all the traffic if it's dry. Snow machining is allowed during winter. There are three Chugach State Park rental cabins along the lake, as well as a large campground at the lower end and a rustic campground at the far (upper) end. The road continues past the end of the lake another four miles. Then a rocky trail leads to the receding glacier. Many guidebooks say it's only a 3/4 of a mile hike to the glacier, but it's much farther now--I've heard about two miles.
