This "winter" has been fairly warm (upper 20s lately) and with still no snow, hiking our favorite trails is a pleasure. The Turnagain Arm trail, which runs from the south end of Potter Marsh to the Windy trail head, is part of the old historic Johnson Trail. Miners heading for the Iditarod gold district in interior Alaska used the trail as an easier alternative to Crow Pass that connects Girdwood to Eagle River. Its southern exposure makes it one of the earliest trails around Anchorage to melt in spring. Today we hiked from Rainbow to Windy and back.
