At the Government Peak Recreation Area (GPRA), you can bike, ski, hike, run, or sled. We decided to try the new bike trails, maintained by the Valley Mountain Bikers and Hikers. The bike trails are shared with pedestrians and dogs, but on the weekday evening we went, we only met up with one other person. The trails are used frequently during winter, but still seem relatively undiscovered by summer users.
The bike trail switchbacks up the base of the mountain through open forest, but the elevation gain is less than 400 feet to the highest point, so pedaling uphill is a good workout but doable for those in decent shape. Riding downhill was so much fun! We hooted. We hollered. We laughed with joy. Just do it!
Distance upper and lower bike loop: about 4 miles
