I'd had a hard time finding details about the Upper Winner Creek trail, so I took plenty of photos to share here when I hiked it for an overnight to Berry Pass. We left from the Winner Creek trailhead at Alyeska Resort. Just over a mile in, the trail comes to a "T." Go left to Winner Creek and the famous hand tram. Go right and hike another seven miles or so up to the pass. Most of the trail ascends gradually through thick forest. A couple of long stretches through alders and tall grass hadn't been cleared in some time, and though we could feel the hard-packed trail under our boots, it was difficult to see. At about mile five or six is a fast-flowing creek crossing; we changed into alternate footwear for it, and I was glad to have hiking poles even though the water wasn't over my shins. Only in the last mile does the trail get above treeline, but once up top--WOW! Enjoy the views.
