Kachemak Bay State Park across from Homer has numerous trails and even some rental huts. Water taxis can drop you off and pick you up at trailheads. I've lucked out and now have family with property in Peterson Bay, so we paddled from the cabin to the head of Peterson Bay, portaged the boats over an isthmus (please don't pee there--the local residents don't take kindly to their yards being used as a toilet {so I've been told; we didn't test the rumor}). We continued paddling up to the head of China Poot Bay (where there's a rental yurt), stashed the kayaks, and followed the Coalition Loop Trail up and over a low pass to the head of Halibut Cove Lagoon. This is the first trail I've hiked in that area, but I'll definitely be back for more!
