The summit of Lazy Mountain is just 2.5 miles from the trailhead, but one word describes the lower half of the hike: STEEP. We whined the whole way up, but kept going anyway, despite snow, cold temperatures, and gale-force winds at the top. Two false peaks along the way make the ascent that much harder mentally. None of us tagged the true summit, as the wind threatened to blow us off the narrow ridge right before the peak just feet from "victory," but we climbed close enough to feel a sense of accomplishment. Did I mention that Lazy Mountain is steep? My toes were cold all the way up, even though I wore my normal winter hiking boots and I moved at a constant pace. As soon as we turned and headed back down, they warmed up; apparently the angle of my ankles while climbing cut off the circulation. Who knew?
